Backlinks for SEO: how to get them?

Index Content

SEO has become the key to success for your business in the online world. Without a good SEO positioning, you will not reach your target audience and you will not generate traffic to your website. To achieve a good SEO positioning you must work on the content of your brand, that is, create valuable content that not only interests them, but that provides a solution to your audience. Otherwise, your content will not generate an impact and will not be taken into account for future views. However, content is only one of the factors to position your website, the other is backlinks for SEO.

what are SEO backlinks?

SEO backlinks are those inbound or external links that point from one website's page to another website's page. In other words, they are links from third party sources that point to your website, as opposed to internal links that exist between two pages within the same website. In other words, they are links that come from other sites that have a different domain and point to your website or blog.

are all backlinks good for my website? Be careful, it is not the same to receive backlinks from pages that are related to the theme of our brand to others that are not. For example, if a fast food site links to your page that revolves around nutrition, it is considered a bad practice and this brings consequences: Google can penalize you for the lack of relationship between one page and another.

Types of backlinks for SEO

There are several types of backlinks for SEO, which we present below:

- dofollow:

This backlink conveys authority to the page it links to, helping it to rank higher. When someone links to your page with a dofollow, they are recommending Google to follow your link because it provides valuable content. This link conveys trust and does not have the nofollow attribute added to it.

- nofollow:

This backlink does not convey authority and is recommending Google not to follow your link. However, in September 2019, Google announced that when nofollow was introduced, no links marked this way were not counted as a signal to use within the search algorithms. Today the story is different, as all link attributes are treated as clues as to which links to consider or exclude within search.

- sponsored or paid links:

Sometimes you can pay a blogger or influencer to promote a piece of your content or to post a review of one of your products. You should be very careful with this backlink, as paying to get a dofollow link is a violation of Google's quality standards and can affect your site's ranking in the SERP.

- uGC links:

These links with UGC attribute are those that come from forums and blog comments, i.e. it is user-generated content. This attribute is used to tag all user-generated links. It is not mandatory, but rather a recommendation from Google to better identify this type of links.

- high authority links:

These are links that come from trusted sources. For example, a link from the newspaper El País already has a reputation and earned trust, so it makes sense for Google to trust a link from this newspaper. They can also come from established websites that are already trusted by Google.

- toxic or unnatural links:

These links usually come from suspicious or low-quality websites or are those that breach Google's quality standards and only seek to manipulate search engine rankings.

- editorially placed links:

This link is used because a journalist has taken the decision to link to another website, as they feel it deserves to receive more authority and traffic. The use of this link is not intended to manipulate search engine algorithms, but to improve the reader's experience.
