In the past , the termprogramme wasused when referring to a word processor such as Word or a photo editor such as Photoshop, but then came smartphones, or in other words, portablesmartphones that work like a computer on which we can install programmes.
Now, we can differentiate between two types of programmes: on the one hand, there are those that are installed on computers, which are called desktop applications, and on the other hand, those that are installed on our mobile devices, which are known as mobile apps or simply apps.
Apps have become famous because they are available on the net, ready to be downloaded and used. You can get them for free or buy them. Apps can be found in the Play Store (belonging to Google) in the case of Android mobiles or in the App Store for iOs, which belongs to Apple. We can also mention the AppStore for Android, from Amazon.
We interviewed Daniel García, Director of Technological Development at Occam, to find out more about apps:
what is an app?
D.G.: It is a softwareoperating system that manages the hardware of a device, the most important nowadays being iOs and Android, the latter being the most common as it belongs to Google.
why are apps so important nowadays?
D.G.: We can say that they are important because they make our daily lives easier. For example, in the past, to meet up with a friend you had to do it on the computer or call them at home; nowadays it is no longer necessary, you can talk wherever and whenever you want, easily and quickly. In addition, they are also starting to be used in the business world because they facilitate many actions such as sending data, filling out forms, etc. In other words, they automate processes and reduce production costs.
how does the existence of applications affect our lives?
D.G.: Well, as with everything, there is a positive side and a negative side. The negative side is that we may not know how to use these tools and the result may be disastrous, but if we do know how to use these tools, the results will be splendid. Also, being an application developer is something that can be combined with our profession, which will help us create tools that are beneficial to our profession.
Finally, what programmes do you currently have or are most useful for developing apps?
D.G.: Well, we can divide this into two parts: on the one hand, the more traditional, which is the Web, in which programmes such as CC3, HTML5, PHP, etc.are used , and on the other hand, those belonging to the current market, that is, the mobile app market, where Android and iOs are found. Android is programmed with Java and iOs with Swift or Objective c.
